John Fortin, chess fan and lover of humanity, born on September 17, 1950, a long time resident of London, Ontario, left Canada as a bachelor in 1993 to pursue a teaching job in Papua, New Guinea. He returned in 2013, this time to settle down in Saint John, New Brunswick, happily married, and with two sons by his side, he became suddenly stricken with terminal cancer. As a high school biology teacher, John Fortin touched many lives at the old William street London Chess Club, and when he left London to follow his dreams, he touched thousands of lives. Sadly, John died Oct. 18, 2014.
